Hi! Here is a book which I just located at my local library! It is by Environmental Educator, Ruth A. Wilson. I love the idea of teaching children about how to respect nature through "...foster[ing] attitudes, values, and behaviors" through "...positive experiences with the natural environment."

Here is a link to her book:

Project Learning Tree Releases New Curriculum for Early Childhood Educators to Get Children Outdoors

Washington, D.C. - Just as more attention is being focused on the need to connect students to nature at a younger age, Project Learning Tree® (PLT) releases a new curriculum guide and music CD to engage children ages 3 to 6 in outdoor exploration and play. Eleven field-tested, hands-on activities showcase over 130 "early childhood experiences" which integrate investigations of nature with art, literature, math, music, and movement. Early childhood educators and caregivers can obtain a copy of PLT's Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood curriculum by attending a PLT professional development workshop in their area.

I don't know where to put this. I want to share this cute little book.  Found it in sale bin.   A fun find.
Amazon.com: Chicken Joy on Redbean Road: A Bayou Country Romp (9780618507597):
Jacqueline Briggs Martin, Melissa Sweet: Books
It's about music, healing, fun, community and food. And chickens.  I smiled all the way through. Kids four and older would get the most out of the story. There is talk about making an ailing rooster into "quiet rooster stew" but the lady never gets around to that.

SUSAN -- WOW -- the stats on the cost of junk food vs. healthy food are SO powerful. And scary. We need to turn that around. Thanks so much for sharing, I am going to write a blog post for the Body Smart Blog on your last article share. THANKS!

# 3. Fresh fruits and vegetables cost 10 times more than junk food, according to researchers at the University of Washington. A thousand calories of nutritious food cost $18.16, while a thousand calories of junk food cost a mere $1.76. How do they keep junk-food costs so low? Pretty simple, actually: flavor enhancers and other chemical additives.

Sugary drinks and sodas linked to increased diabetes, metabolic syndrome
http://www.theheart.org/article/1141681.do

In a new meta-analysis published in the November 2010 issue of Diabetes Care, Dr Vasanti S Malik (Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, MA) and colleagues report that consumption of just one or two sugar-sweetened beverages per day is associated with a 26% greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes and a 20% increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome [1].
